Dreamers Blog
I believe in my dream to be a motion designer (a combo of graphic design and animation) for title sequences and/or book trailers. What started this dream? I took a class in my junior year of college on motion graphics which opened my eyes to this whole world of animation. Freshman year, when I was picking my major, I remember being really torn between animation and graphic design. They just seemed like polar opposite worlds at the time. I ended up picking Advertising & Graphic Design because it seemed like good mixture of all the art I liked. I didn’t know motion graphics existed, but when I took that class I just remember saying to myself, “this is what I want to do.” Since then I’ve been trying to make up all kinds of excuses to work in After Effects and constantly come up with animation ideas. As far as specifics of my title sequence dream comes from watching the opening credits to James Bond: Casino Royale [http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/casino-royale/] which I had just labeled “graphic design” when I first saw it. After that motion graphics class I realized what it was and that all these ideas from my teenage years were really just little motion graphics. It was one of the most prominent design pieces that inspired me to go into graphic design. On the other hand the book trailer dream comes from loving books and wanting to promote them. I feel that it’s a niche that has yet to be truly explored and I would like to work to make it marketing tool to push books in this fast paced social media world. What motivates you to follow this dream? There are so many motivations, but mostly people. Examples are inspiration from what others make and how they create. Inspiring others motivates me. I like creating for others and making others happy, excited, and joyful from that work. Family and friends are also great motivators. I find watching Youtubers that create inspirational videos always gets me going to work toward my dreams. I want to create pieces that make others happy and inspire them like people inspire me. What are your goals? My short term goals are to find a motion graphics or graphic design internship/job where I can grown my skills. As far as higher set goals I’m still narrowing them down, but I want pursue the book trailer and title sequence dreams. That probably means working at a larger agency or pitching to publishers, and maybe even starting my own company. The possibilities are endless so my real goal is to enjoy the journey and keep climbing mountains. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? Come join me on Twitter @Zonaefly!
