Dreamers Blog
I believe in my dream to…? I have to begin this with a quote from Jung, ‘I don’t believe, I know …’ Jung was a man of dreams and is one of my heroes. I was brought up by parents and relatives who followed the old ways of Britain. And their parents, and their parents, for many and many generations. There were quite a few of what we call the “old folk” in the villages where I grew up so I wasn’t alone, there were several people to take me and the other old-ways- children under their wings, and show us how life works and how to live it. Part of that teaching was about how to dream. In consequence, I don’t “believe” in dreams, I know them as old friends who are there to help me … and who ask me to help them. This is such a comfortable and easy way to be, I wish more people would be brave enough to try it. So, I work with the dream, with the dream-world, with otherworld, learning and exploring, helping too. Remember 9/11? Well, that was one helluva work-time for those of us who do, who work with dreams. We were finding spirits, catching them, herding them up, and generally helping them get to where they needed to be for quite a few nights! We had great help from otherworld, particularly from Gwyn ap Nudd (as we call the antlered one here in Britain) and the antlered lady whom he partners (yes that way round! She’s in charge 😊) Elen of the Ways. Elen is lady of the dream-paths, amongst other things, so dream-work is always part of her work … and the work of those who work with her, like me. What started this dream? What starts any dream … a need. Often the need is both in oneself and in otherworld; we need to know more about something; they need us to do something for them. After all these years of my life I’m now well used to “night school”. It’s like the catnapping my cats do, I cross the bridge into otherworld, and the dream world, and there I go into situations that teach me things; or I go places where I’m needed to do things; or I travel to learn about places and people and things. I watch my cats do this, they’re much more adept at it than any human I’ve ever known. Dreams are about learning and discovering with otherworld, and being useful with them. It’s a partnership, where you and otherworld work together for evolution – that’s evolution of the whole spirit-world as well as your spirit, of thinking, and of the emotional world, as well as physical evolution. It goes through all of that, through everything in creation, and creation is a part of spirit. At first, many folk don’t really know how to dream, and most get no instruction in it nowadays because it’s all tangled in bad-science which says it’s just your brain giving off weird and fragmented electrical signals. Sigh! Good science doesn’t actually say this but the TV and google and most of the internet crap folks choose to believe purports the most dreadful rubbish. It’s all about reducing it down to a size, a box, that is easy to handle and doesn’t strain anyone’s brain … sigh, again! Stretching your mind, thinking out of the box, expanding the envelope … they’re what real living is about. And dreams can help us do this – if we allow them. That’s the premise that starts every dream. Just because most of them are stillborn and scrapped as soon as we open our eyes doesn’t make the dream useless … it shows how incredibly small our own thinking and belief system is. The trick is to learn this, to learn to open up, to learn to work with otherworld – we call it walking between worlds. That phrase – walking between worlds – comes from one of our old seannachie (Scottish Gaelic “shaman” types, spirit keepers) called Thomas of Erceldoune; you likely know him better from the old song, Thomas the Rhymer. What motivates you to follow this dream? Work. My work is my raison d’etre, reason for incarnating, and it’s all about working with otherworld. This really isn’t a personal thing, my life is my work – and it’s such good fun! Work – working with spirit, all the time – is always what motivates me. It’s not the same as the usual “personal” motivation most people have. I consciously joined the club, joined with otherworld to work, when I was in my teens. Oh yes, I’d been doing it all my life but it’s different while you’re still a child. Then you do things because “that’s what you do”; later, as a teenager, you gradually become yourself and, if your lucky with your parenting or other factors in your life, that’s about becoming your spirit self. You don’t get all that overnight, it takes time and space and purpose on your part, and you’ll make mistakes, everyone does, they’re best means of learning there is. It was, perhaps, less hard for me to make it towards being myself because of my background, but there were still ptifalls and hard times, and times when I just wanted to crawl away and be “ordinary”. But the dream-lif, the dream-world, and Elen of the Ways helped me through these – she still does when I get really down nowadays 😊. And, ultimately, my “one dream” is to work with otherworld, always, all the time … I’m doing this, following that path. It is sooooooo good! What are your goals? Like I just said … to work with otherworld, always, all the time. But there’s more than that. Working with otherworld is also about helping others who want to do that as well. That’s why I write, that’s why I teach. Watching people open up, seeing that joy in their eyes … there’s nothing like it! The writing comes through dream-work too. I’ll set up an objective, an information need, or the scene for a novel, before I go to sleep, then the dreams come, and they lead me into how to write whatever it is I need to. I do the same with teaching too, both with the lessons and with problems the students have. All good students have problems – that’s how they climb out of their boxes and grow! I only ever worry about those who seem to be having it easy, they’re not growing, not changing, not expanding. The old saw about snakes sloughing their skins is so true, we all have to put off our old skins and grow new ones, and that can be difficult and painful. Working with otherworld through dreams is a really good way of being useful for the books and the students. I take myself of for a “catnap”, a dream, and come back refreshed and with some new ways of solving the problem. In our old ways, we do “daydreaming”. It mostly gets an awfully bad press nowadays in ordinary life, often called time-wasting, foolish and illusionary. Sigh … yet again! Ye gods, we have lost so, so much in the past 50-odd years, really (as I see it) since the later 1970s. everything gets crammed into “rational” and “logical” boxes, rather like Cinderella’s sisters cut off bits of their toes and heels to try to fit their feet into the glass slipper! I mean, how dumb can you get, to do that sort of thing? And most people’s brains are so overworked, and in all the wrong things, their quite addled. But using anything but your brain, nowadays, is considered stupid. Ah well … ho hum! So one of my goals, when working with anyone who comes to me and wants to grow, is to get them out of this frightful head-set way of being. It’s hard work! But it’s so worthwhile as their “past their sell-by” dated stuff falls away from them and the real person emerges. It really is like the caterpillar coming out of the chrysalis as a butterfly. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? I’m an author, teacher & wilderness woman. Born into a family of British cunning folk where the old ways were passed down since time out of mind. I live with my cats, husband and a host of wildlife in the back of beyond, a magical twilight place between worlds, on the Welsh Borders. I write novels – Owl Woman & Moon Song – and non-fiction @MoonBooksJHP, my latest is Merlin: once & future wizard, and I’m an Awenydd/Shaman who teaches the old ways of Britain. I love cats, spinning & weaving, wildlife, ecology, mountain walking, wilderness, rewilding, music, folklore. I believe in my dream to be a successful author whose books are known for staying with you long after you finish the read. What started this dream? After completing my Master’s degree, I felt a void from no longer writing research papers. So, I decided to take a stab at creative writing which is way different than anything I had written before. I have been a technical writer for many years in my career as a geologist, so I was more accustomed to writing facts only. Though different, I enjoy writing novels because it allows me to continue researching topics I find interesting and bringing them to life. What motivates you to follow this dream? The motivation comes from inside. As an Indie author, I don’t have any deadlines and my bills are paid with my day job. I simply have to write. Characters will start evolving and will stay with me for awhile as I develop them. I guess you could say they are my motivation! What are your goals? I just released my debut novel titled, The Caging at Deadwater Manor, on March 31, and I was so excited that it topped the charts as the #1 Hot New Releases bestsellers on Amazon when it launched. This is a psychological thriller that was written for mature young adults and older. My next goal is to release my next novel by the end of this year. This will be a historical time travel series called Time Lands: The Hunger. It’s about a girl from today who meets a guy from Ireland back during the Great Irish Hunger in the 1800s. Full of adventure and suspense, this book series will take the reader back in time to interesting and sometimes heart-wrenching histories. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? The Caging at Deadwater Manor has been professionally edited and is a high-quality book with a rich storyline. The story evolved from experiences my dad had during short periods of his career at psychiatric hospitals. He shared patient routines, treatments, hospital layouts and stories, but the book primarily evolved from a discovery he made in the attic...something that unnerved me enough to bring this book to life. Though the story is fiction, I've intertwined much of the information shared by my dad and research I performed while writing this book. Here’s the book blurb: On a cold, January evening, a fourteen-year-old Jeannie Kynde is told that er beloved mother drowned in the murky waters along Florida's Gulf Coast. Her distraught father turns on Jeannie, no longer the caring father she once knew. Four years later, Jeannie is finally old enough to escape her father's clutches, but he has different plans. He imprisons her at Deadwater Manor, a psychiatric hospital with an unscrupulous past. Will she be locked away forever? Or can she fight against the nightmare that has now become her world? You can find me at www.sandiewill.com. My book is sold as an ebook and paperback in the US and internationally in several formats that can be found at this link: books2read.com/u/me0vgZ The Dreamer Blog features two people each week in pursuit of their dreams, large or small everyone has a dream that deserves support. What started this dream? When I was a kid, quality time with my dad meant that we would watch pictures of his travels. When I was 7-8 years old, he flew us round trip to St. Louis so we knew what it felt like to fly in an airplane. It's an experience that shaped my view of the world. As an adult, I've learned how much travel can bring joy, connect people, and change lives. If you look at the top ten items on the bucket list of most people, you'll see that travel dominates the list. What motivates you to follow this dream? I'm an optimist at heart. I feel it's my responsibility to use my gifts to make my dream a reality. It pains me to see negativity and hate get more airplay than positivity. The data shows that at least 50% of the U.S. workforce is disengaged or unhappy for the past 15 years. When people travel, they are less likely to be focused on creating more negativity in the world. I believe that I have the power, resources, and community of global business partners to make my dream a reality. What are your goals? My current goal is to help 1,000+ businesses and 1,000,000+ people by 2020 to experience at least one bucket list item. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? You don't have to wait to experience the life of your dreams. You don't have to work at a job you don't like. You weren't born to pay bills and die. More specifically, I want you to eat bugs. What started this dream? It seems a bit scandalous, eh? Who in their right mind (and over age 5) would eat bugs?? You call it gross; I call it one of the most intriguing branding and marketing issues of my lifetime. Look at sushi– less than 40 years ago the U.S. did not relish the idea of consuming raw fish (many even considered it barbaric.) Now it’s a thriving industry. All it took was some clever branding, the California Roll, and time. Insects are a superfood. They're healthy for you, the environment, and taste great. I had my first bug six years ago while working in Mexico. Since, I've learned about what potential insects have to impact our food systems in a positive way. What motivates you to follow this dream? Insects are a superfood. They're healthy for you, the environment, and taste great. But the main reason I eat bugs? It's fun. There's nothing better than challenging people's assumption about something we hold so dear: food. Seeing the look on a first-time-bug-eater's face is worth all the hustle. Life is more beautiful when we get to share new experiences and inspire curiosity. What are your goals? I started Bugible as a blog to chronicle what I learned about the growing industry around edible insects. Now, I host events and craft relatable messages and stories around edible bugs that relate to potential consumers. Through creating fun & memorable events around eating bugs, I hope to educate potential consumers and raise funds to support the great companies emerging in the space. The restaurants and bars I've hosted events with so far have also benefited! Bugs are a great way to spice things up and draw a new crowd. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? I host monthly dinners and other events at eatbugsevents.com. Douglas Geller, the author of this blog is also the author of the book The Dreamer; you can learn more about The Dreamer and purchase it at: http://amzn.to/2j7W79P I believe in my dream to create meaningful stories and reviews, particularly in the area of horror. What started this dream? I began writing stories as early as first grade, and I would read books like the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series and hundreds of Goosebumps rip-offs; I started reading Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft when I was nine, and these stories propelled me to explore horror in all its diverse, terrifying beauty. What motivates you to follow this dream? When I was younger, reading made me feel affirmed and shaped my view of the world and myself. It developed a deep sense of empathy. My passions for writing and horror compel me to chase what I love so others can learn and find solace in words. What are your goals? My goal is to help others see the value in horror. As well as that, I want to publish Dove Keeper, a horror novel about my executioner relatives that puts forward themes of trauma, grief, mental illness, social isolation, and family conflicts. In the end, I hope my novels and other writing endeavors will help my readers feel understood. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? I want everyone to know that all the dark and harrowing parts of their lives matter, and storytelling is a wonderful means of expressing pain and helping others feel less alone. My name is Aleks. I am from Bulgaria, but currently living in Belgium. For several months already I’ve been running a blog called #kspersonal. Whether to what’s my dream, it is very simple - to become one of the top event managers/organizers. For now I have organized two charity campaigns in high school and it went pretty well. What started this dream? As I mentioned already, I have organized two charity events in my high school. Let’s call it an accident, because every year in high school I was part of the Student’s Council which was responsible for organizing everything in our school, except classes etc. So in the fourth year of high school (in total we have 5 years in Bulgarian high schools), the principal wanted me to organize the Christmas charity concert in our school and it went pretty good, I felt quite good doing this. I had good results so during senior year it was again up to me to organize a charity campaign on a national level. I found nice people to work with and we did amazing job with raising big amount of money for children with biological deceases. And by accident, I discovered that I really enjoy the process of organizing things and in the end, when you did good job, it feels amazing to stand in front of people, because you did good job either with their money, or if you’re doing charity – their trust. What motivates you to follow this dream? What drives me forward is the thing that I just can’t be satisfied if I don’t work this and work it on my terms. I am ready to sacrifice a lot of things for this one dream as long as in the end I can manage my own schedule and my own company. I won’t be able to breathe if I’m not doing what I love and doing it on my own terms. What are your goals? My primary goal is to become an event manager. In addition, I want to have my own company in this sphere. I already told you that I won’t be able to breathe if I am not doing that as a job. Another thing I really want to happen is to become a shareholder in Juventus. This is the only reason I want to become rich, so I can afford Juventus’s shares. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? Well, you already know that I am a huge fan of the Old Lady. People should also know that I never give up on what I want and that I loathe complaining. Yes, life is hard, but if instead of complaining, you put that time into working on your dreams and goals, you will own life. Maybe you will say it’s pretty optimistic, but I genuinely believe that if you want something really bad, you will find a way to achieve it. More about my point of view on a lot of topics you can find on kspersonal.wordpress.com or on Instagram @ks.persnl. What started this dream? As young as I can remember I was fascinated by the night sky (as early as age 5) and I remember looking up and knowing someday I would go to space. What motivates you to follow this dream? I am motivated by my belief in myself and the huge support of teachers, friends and family who have all believed in me. And now an online community of over 700,000 people. What are your goals? I plan to graduate college with astrobiology and Russian degrees and enter a Phd program to study astrobiology straight from my undergraduate work. I will get my PhD and work as a scientist and start applying to become an astronaut. I also have a goal to attain my private pilot license in the next 6 months and in next 2 years plan to extend my scuba certification from a rescue diver to a dive master which is a professional certification. What started this dream? It all began thanks to my parents, really, even though they now hate that fact and my mother swears that if she were to know that I’d spend the rest of my life traveling and being away from home that she never would have sent me to Spain. You see, my family is from the northwest of Spain but emigrated to the US a little over thirty years ago, in search of better job opportunities. My brothers and I were born and raised in the US, but my parents would send us away to Spain every year to spend the summer with our grandparents. Imagine nine to ten months of boring school, tedious schoolwork, a demanding extra-curricular activity timetable and overprotective parents, and then imagine two months of being in a small, safe town where you can be out and about all day without any worries, learning another language, meeting people who become some of your best friends, seeing new places that are completely different to what you’re used to, and all of this with the minimal responsibility of being home in time for delicious meals and to spend some quality time with your grandparents. Summers in Spain meant freedom, freedom and happiness discovering and experiencing new things. That is what traveling is; ever since being privileged enough to travel to Spain every summer, until I myself got up and moved to Spain, I’ve wanted to travel the world. So, why not find a way to work while traveling? That’s how this dream evolved. What motivates you to follow this dream? This may not be the answer that most people expect, but, what motivates me is feeling stuck. You can be relatively happy and comfortable somewhere, but it’s not until you throw yourself out there, somewhere new and different, that you realize what you’re missing out on on a daily basis. When I lived in the US, I dreamt of living in Spain. I’ve been living in Spain for almost seven years and now I dream of living everywhere. Why? Because you get used to it, you learn the language, you learn the lifestyle, the culture, the ways of the people, there comes a point where it’s not new and exciting anymore and you feel this need to get out there and find another place to discover! That’s obviously not the only thing that motivates me. What motivates me the most is seeing that other people are doing it. There’s this somewhat new concept called the Digital Nomad lifestyle, which is basically living around the world while working from a lap top. If you search for the term Digital Nomad on Google, Facebook, Instagram, any social media site, you name it, tons of accounts/groups/pages will come up showing results of people who are already living this lifestyle. If they can do it, why can’t I? What are your goals? My ultimate goal is to be able to travel while working from anywhere in the world at any time, essentially, to live the Digital Nomad lifestyle. In order to do that, you must find a way to make money on the go, so, my biggest goal (before traveling) is landing freelance writing and/or translating ENG <-> ESP jobs and generating income on the internet. Apart from freelance jobs, I’m creating a website where I document my process in becoming a Digital Nomad from day 1. Through this website, my goal is to share the steps I take throughout the process in hopes to help others who are trying to live this lifestyle as well. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? Collaboration always wins over competition; help others and others will help you. I landed my first freelance writing job simply by sending someone a Direct Message asking them if they were looking for someone to collaborate with. The worst answer you can get is “no,” but there is always someone who will say yes! Currently, you can find me on Instagram: @dreamsndeadlines. That is where I post daily and will post any and all updates about my website. If more people includes it's just a bonus and will leave me forever grateful. The fitness lifestyle has helped me and developed me in many ways - and to pass it on to others who are working for the same goals in life is an honor. I love people and as I normally say: we're all in this journey together, helping each other out. What started this dream? It was back in 2014 when I lived in Norway for a year and realized how much I enjoy training. I wanted to come up with something unique that people would recognize me with to therefore share my journey in hope to help others as well. That's when the hashtag #GetItDone came to life. People started to catch up with the whole Get It Done thing, so late 2015, an idea hit me: why not start something more globally to spread the message even more? And that's when our first company, Get It Done Brand Sweden, launched in late 2016. High quality fitnessapparel with one simple reminder; Get It Done, no matter the circumstances. What motivates you to follow this dream? To see others enjoy the life of training and health, and the joy that comes with it. At least that's my motivation to help people with. What are your goals? To reach out to as many people as possible in hope that we all can help each other to a better wellbeing. What would you like people to know and where can we find you?I'd like people to know that as soon as we have found our truly joy in life, life itself gets so much more fun to go through. What started this dream? I started making skateboarding videos when I was 11 just to document what my friends and I did on a day to day basis. As I got older and progressed into new hobbies, my passion to make lifestyle videos continued. Platforms like Instagram have let me expand this into Photography and even given me opportunities to build businesses. What motivates you to follow this dream? I wake up everyday wanting to do this. Whether its taking pictures or video a day doesn't go by where I don't want to do something, so it's just natural to me. I feel like if you're truly passionate about something you'll never totally lose motivation. What are your goals?
