I believe in my dream to be a full time running coach What started this dream? I always knew I wanted to be a coach, whether it was high school basketball or cross country - I was always fascinated by the analytical side of the sport. I used to find so much excitement in going over training plans with my high school running coach. I was able to put those lessons into practice as a senior coaching my 800-1600 group in track. It was fun! I've always enjoyed putting just as much effort into analyzing the sport as I have actually running. It's a life long sport and every runner has the opportunity to set records and that is what makes it so exciting. What motivates you to follow this dream? I love the pursuit! Whether that's convincing runners to train with me or teaching runners how to run their best - all great coaches are teachers. I love that every runner is their own science experiment and every runner will respond differently to certain types of training - it fascinates me! Seeing success always motivates me to keep moving forward, when an athlete of mine runs a pr (personal record) that is all of the motivation I need to keep going. What are your goals? I want to do this for a living, that's step 1. I'm pretty open about my journey, I coached at the college level but that doesn't pay and coaching for passion doesn't seem to pay the bills. Right now I work full time at a running store here in St. Louis but I am getting closer and closer to making coaching my full time job. I have other projects that will help me get there but ultimately when someone asks me what I do for a living, I want to be able to confidently say - "I'm a running coach". The ultimate goal is to sponsor/coach a post collegiate distance running project, there is a surprising lack of support for competitive runners after competing in the college ranks and I hope I can help in changing that trend. Track programs across the country are losing funding - if we can find a way to better support our runners at the top then Track & Field can be seen as an essential sport again. I believe in my dream to positively impact people with my music as a career. What started this dream? I've been performing nearly much my entire life and I've realized that nothing makes me happier. Music is my passion, and I knew I wanted to pursue that before I hit double digits. My parents have always been extremely supportive, so I never felt like following my dreams wasn't in the cards. What motivates you to follow this dream? The pure joy I feel from writing, recording, and performing my music is enough to keep me wanting more, but a huge motivating factor is regret. I don't want to live my life with regret, so I'm giving it my all now in order to look back later--regardless of the outcome--and be happy with the choices I made. No "what if"s for me! What are your goals? My number one goal is to completely make a living off singing the music I write/playing my violin & guitar. The goal in making my music is to have a positive effect on people in some way. My lyrics are packed with messages that are meant to resonate with people and evoke emotions. When I was going through my most difficult times, music helped get me through. I'd be happy knowing that my music was able to do the same thing for someone else. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? I'm so excited to announce that I just released my first EP, titled "Until You Drop", which you can now find on Spotify, iTunes, and Google Play. What started my dream? My brother used to watch the UFC on TV all the time. I thought it was crazy and not really cool, two guys fighting each other and then once I kept watching it, I said to myself hey, I could do that I'm athletic enough. So one day a friend of mine heard that I was interested in the sport and he had a friend that was doing MMA. He told me to contact his friend gave me the number I called the guy and he told me to come out and train and have been doing it ever since. What motivates you to follow this dream? What motivates me is my family and friends, fans and the amount of support I receive. It keeps me pushing and striving to reach my goals. What are your goals? My goals are to someday be sign to the UFC or some big organization, become champion, open my own gym and be stable financially. What do you want people to know and where can we find you? What started this dream? My love for music video directing came from realising I could never be a musician but loved music so decided to film them instead. After trying various roles in film-making and realising that thinking up an idea & being a driving force to make it a reality, was what excited me most therefore making me realise directing was what I wanted to do. What motivates you to follow this dream? My motivations are my friends and family. Being able to make them proud, especially my mum. I wanna keep pushing the boundaries and creating new and creative films. What are your goals? My goals are to be as successful as possible in the music video field and to someday direct feature length music documentaries. From a personal level, my goal in life is to be the best version of myself. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? What started this dream? My Dream started when I graduated from high school. Unfortunately, I lost my mother at ten years old to breast cancer. She instilled two important lessons: travel the world and get a college education. I conquered both those requests, one due in part to the help of the Academic Advancement Program at my university. This program partnered me with tutors and helped me to stay engaged socially. If I could in any way can help another student accomplish their academic goals without the burden of debt it would be my honor. Shifting my mindset on the topic of student loans was due in part to my aunt introducing me to Dave Ramsey. I launched my instagram page in October of 2016 to share my two year journey of getting out of debt, and help as many people along the way as I can. What are your goals? I want to create an online community of support for people wanting to get out of, and avoid student loan debt. With over one point three trillion dollars of debt owed by over four million people there's a definite need in the market place. Insufficient knowledge about student loans and the overwhelming response on instagram lets me know that this is a topic that people need help with. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? Currently I have a blog showcasing my journey of getting out of student loan debt at www.loanfreestudent.com. People can also follow me on instagram @loanfreestudent. My Dream of a website and app will hopefully be available one day. I'm also pursing a 501 c 3 status by this summer. What started this dream? I’ve always had an interest in the performing arts. I began taking dance classes at a young age, took piano lessons, played the violin, participated in acting classes, sang in choirs, and took voice lessons. There was never a question of my love for performing. However, a stand-out moment when this passion turned into a dream that I intended to pursue was when I went on as an understudy in a musical. The production didn’t originally have any understudies, but I had a small part, some spare time, and a hunger that gave me the guts to ask if I could understudy a couple of female roles in the show. One of those actors could not perform on a particular night and I got to step in. It was a thrilling moment that I’ll never forget. What motivates you to follow this dream? The ability and opportunity to perform is never guaranteed. This motivates me to continue to go after my dream. My desire to work as an actor is a constant driving force that won’t settle unless it’s answered. It’s not only a dream, but a need. Also, knowing that I have the chance to make an impact on an audience member in the slightest of ways inspires me to keep going. What are your goals? I want to continue to work as an actor regionally, but also have the experience of performing in a national or international tour. One of main goals is working on Broadway and Off-Broadway. I believe that if you work hard, never stop learning, and stay grateful, good things will come your way. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? “Success” can be defined in many ways. But I feel that as long as YOU believe the work you’re doing is fulfilling your soul and helping to reach your dream, then you are successful. I'll be in an encore performance of the Joe Iconis musical "The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks" at the Redhouse Arts Center in Syracuse on February 26th. What started this dream? I had a trillion ideas of creative things that I wanted to try, but because I was too busy collecting ideas, I never tried any of them. It made me go stir crazy. So, I came up with a plan to choose twelve creative mediums and explore one for each month of 2017. I call it The Heartward Project. I decided to blog to make my journey transparent so that others could see how capable they are of taking that next step toward the ideas they’ve been wanting to try. The beauty of The Heartward Project is that it can be tailored to anyone’s dreams. It’s really just about seeing how far you can get in one month, and not letting that time slip by. Then you can reevaluate, and go again for another month. What motivates you to follow this dream? I know how frustrating it is to not know which is the next step to take to go after your dreams. I have an idea of where I’d like to be by the end of this year, but first I have to figure out which creative medium best speaks to me. I recognized that this was my next step toward my dream, and I also believe that others can just as easily join me on this journey and move toward their dreams. The Heartward Project is customizable with the idea that all can Be Heartward toward accomplishing their dreams. What are your goals? Not only am I excited to see where The Heartward Project leads me, but ultimately, it would be really cool to see many others taking those steps to reach their goals and dreams, too. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? I want other people to know that their dreams are attainable, and often times, all it takes is defining which is the next step. My blog is located at www.theheartwardproject.com. What started this dream? I've always been big into movies. Growing up in the suburbs of Boston, while a privilege in many regards, meant weekends were mostly spent going to the mall and movie theater with friends (shoutout to the Natick Mall and AMC Theater on Route 9!). My friends and I were always looking to catch the latest comedy, action or sci-fi flick, and were constantly quoting movie lines back and forth to each other, almost as if we had our own language. When I got to college, I became more and more interested in the craft of screenwriting, and since graduating a few years ago, I've been grinding it out trying to absorb as much screenwriting knowledge as I can as well as churn out my own original spec scripts. What motivates you to follow this dream? Since moving to Boston after college, I've also gotten into standup comedy, and meeting all these different aspiring comedians and creative individuals has been hugely inspiring and motivating. I've found a lot of love and support in my short time in the Boston comedy scene, and being around like-minded people who share the same hunger for creative expression has been just the fuel I need to keep going. Also, I am secretly recruiting all of my comedy friends to act and star in my future film projects What are your goals? My main goal is to become a professional screenwriter and movie producer. I would also like to have one of my original scripts be featured on The Black List, an annual list of some of the most liked but not yet produced Hollywood screenplays. And finally, to become a more seasoned standup comedian. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? You can find all of my content and contact info over at www.bennyhatch.com. Douglas Geller, the author of this blog is also the author of the book The Dreamer; you can learn more about The Dreamer and purchase it at: http://amzn.to/2j7W79P I believe in my dream to write a historical novel Felix Ravenna: A Mosaic. What started this dream? Stories come to me and say, Tell me. It doesn’t stop until the story is told. The idea for the the novel came from a conversation with my daughter. She was telling me why I should go to Ravenna, Italy. As she chatted along, she said, “And he (Theodoric the Great) led his people across the frozen Danube and eventually came to Italy.” In my mind I wondered, what was it like to live then. What motivates you to follow this dream? My main motivation is the story keeps wanting to be told. Characters come and ask me to get them out of the bar fight or whatever predicament in a scene. I like the main character, the time period, and creating scenes. What are your goals? I have a plan. A historical novel set in a time period with limited original source material--the Emperor Justinian did his best to eradicate all trace of Ostrogoth rule in the Roman Empire--requires a lot of research. I’m currently writing a series of short mysteries with the main character Argolicus. I started writing the mysteries, with the same protagonist, for fun while I work on the novel. Eventually there will be four sets of three stories each. These stories keep me focused on the main character as I work through the research and story outline. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? Thank you for allowing me to share my dream! Argolicus was a real person at the time of Theodoric’s reign in Italy. He is mentioned nine times in Cassiodorus’ Variae (iii 11, iii 12, iii 29, iii 30, iii 33, iv 22, iv 25, iv 29, iv 42) as praefectus urbis of Rome. His childhood and ongoing friendship with Cassiodorus come from my imagination as well as his retirement in the very southern tip of Italy, the setting for the mystery series. His call to Ravenna and appointment as comitiacus officium in Felix Ravenna: A Mosaic also originated in an idea. The mysteries are set far away from the capital in southern Italy in 512 A.D. Felix Ravenna: A Mosaic is set two years later in Ravenna during the year 514 A.D. Your readers can find me on Amazon and just about anywhere ebooks are sold.
