Dreamers Blog
![]() I believe in my dream to help people live a healthier life. I want to make the concept of "health" less complicated and easier to achieve. I believe our health is one of the easiest things to control and leads to both a greater quantity and quality of life. What started this dream? In high school I started helping out my teachers in gym classes for the grades younger than me. I realized that as a teacher I'd be able to do this (play games and be active) for the rest of my life and get paid to do it! Sounded like a pretty sweet life to me. However, after graduating Kinesiology and before pursuing my teachers diploma, I got into personal training. I realized that it was the same end result; getting people active and healthy, it was just with adults now instead of kids. After a couple of years, and a few truly life changing experiences from clients I knew I had found my passion. What motivates you to follow this dream? It's the constant stories about life changes that keep me going. I've seen so many people change their lives, extend their lives, recover from injuries and accidents or simply be able to play with their kids again. The countless stories about how people "got their lives back" or "have never been healthier and happier in their life" is my motivation. What are your goals? I actually LOL'd when I read this. First, because I have so many and where do I even begin and second because it's the #1 question I ask anyone I know and work with. As far as this dream and the vision I have for my future, my goals are business related. I started a CrossFit gym nearly 10 years ago, an online coaching business 6 years ago and developed a new fitness system that I'm franchising in Mexico a year and a half ago. I sold the CrossFit gym but the other two businesses are my current focus. The goal of both businesses is reach. I want to be able to help as many people as possible. An online coaching company removes the boundaries of location. The franchise model is designed as an accessible system that focuses on making people think "I can do that". People need to believe they can do it in order to succeed. So, the more these businesses grow, the more people I help! What would you like people to know and where can we find you? My industry (fitness) is built on old-school principles and profit-based companies. Both of these factors lead to options that actually set people up for failure. During this convenient moment in time (January resolutions) let's consider the "typical gym" model: You sign up for a membership at your local gym that has a pretty cheap monthly payment that most anyone can afford. The tie-in is that it's a 1 to 2 year contract that you're making monthly payments towards. However, at this moment you have the new year motivation and believe "this is the year I'll stick to it". The gym sells you, and thousands of other people, this same membership. For about a month, maybe 2 the gym is packed! But after 3-4 months the regulars say "finally, the resolutioners are gone!". The reality is the gym sells more memberships than the facility could actually handle if every one of them showed up! They do this because their business model relies on the fact that 70% or more of the people won't actually come consistently. Thank goodness they got you to sign a contract!
