Dreamers Blog
I believe in my dream to wake up one day heading a company that has been able to bring to market a life saving device such as Neuron Guard, placed in all public places. Neuron Guard is a medical startup based in Modena (Italy) that has the aim to re-imagine the care process of patients with brain injury from the site of the event to the hospital to offer the patient the best chances of survival. What started this dream? This dream started three years ago, while attending the Misa Master in Entrepreneurship and Business Strategy at SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan (Italy). I was pretty sure to finish my studies and started working within a consulting firm, instead in June of 2013 I participated in a “Startup MBA Program”, a program where startuppers submitted their idea to "speed up" but in need of team members to shape the entrepreneurial idea and accelerate it. So, I met Enrico Giuliani, founder of Neuron Guard and creator of the life-saving medical device aimed at early treatment of diseases such as acute brain damage directly on the site of the event. The program lasted three months and ended in September 2013 with the victory of an entrepreneurial training course in Silicon Valley. These two paths allowed me to acquire skills and awareness of wanting to change my life with something completely "disruptive" (as the Americans say) and can enrich me, but even before can save the lives of millions of people. I love to travel, I would never stop wandering around the world, and I associate my business experience exactly with one continuous trip around the Med-tech world – by now - to discover the value of introducing a revolutionize medical device. There is a great value at stake for our team and me but also for the medical and scientific societies. It is not by chance that our vision is to position a Neuron kit Guard in every public places as it has been done with the automatic defibrillator (AED), to save many lives, and permit early treatment already occurrence of the adverse event. What motivates you to follow this dream? The potential of saving many lives thanks to the adoption of our device in the medical community is exactly what motivates me the most. It is not an easy dream, I know, and for this reason we are establishing early collaboration with opinion-leading universities and medical centers (like the University of Cambridge). Also my family motivates me to follow this dream. When I was young, my father told me “If you have a dream, you have never stop to fight for it”. This is what I remind me when I feel a bit demotivated. I have to make my family proud of me. What are your goals? As cofounder of Neuron Guard I say that our goals is to sell our device to hospitals and emergency medicine, such as ambulances, fire fighters and first responders, but also army is a potential customer due to the increasing number of brain injuries in young soldiers. From a personal point of view, I think that it is the right time to make a global change, for women and for us all. Women have the power to change the world. In the report "The power of parity: How advancing women’s equality can add $12 trillion to global growth" published by in 2015, the McKinsey Global Institute estimated that the world could add $12 trillion to annual gross domestic product in 2025, that is 11% higher than it would be under the business-as-usual scenario. An additional $1.5 trillion to $2.0 trillion of annual spending on essential services is required in 2025 to realize the economic potential of women. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? I would like people to know that we are developing a connected-intelligent platform composed by a cooling collar to deliver stable and controlled hypothermia at the head district directly on the site of the event. It is portable, flexible and connected to the control unit that collects all the data of the treatment and transmits them to the Emergency Response System. Differently from our competitors, we are the only one with a temperature management system that takes care of patients and empower bystanders to immediately react in case of emergency.
