Dreamers Blog
I believe in my dream to become a full-time sports journalist covering mixed martial arts. I believe enjoying your job is a huge benefit -- it doesn't feel like "work." And I definitely enjoy writing about mixed martial arts for BloodyElbow.com. What started this dream? I've been writing online for nearly seven years -- despite my age of 16. When I was nine-years-old, I had a blog about an online virtual world called Club Penguin. Although my writing wasn't in-depth or "good," it was still great experience as a future-aspiring journalist. After that phase ended, I started watching mixed martial arts thanks to my dad, who watched the sport right from UFC 1. Over the next two years I became a "hardcore" fan, and started a mixed martial arts website, putting my writing skills to good use. And the rest is history. What motivates you to follow this dream? What motivates you to follow this dream? The success I've found in such little time is what motivates me to continue writing about mixed martial arts and aspire to cover the sport for a living one day. I have been really lucky to receive some of the opportunities I have been given, and to already be writing for one of the largest mixed martial arts websites out there after just over two years of mixed martial arts writing experience. I've also received some awesome criticism, compliments and other comments from fellow media members and fans I respect, which I really appreciate. And the money from BloodyElbow.com doesn't hurt, either. What are your goals? I think it's pretty clear I'd like to cover mixed martial arts full-time. Mixed martial arts is an interesting sport to cover, however. It's very difficult to be successful in this one specific sport. But I started earlier than other writers -- that's a big advantage, in my opinion. If I continue what I'm doing, I do believe I accomplish my goal. What would you like people to know and where can we find you? My writing can be found on BloodyElbow.com -- I focus on day-to-day news, interview stories, and sometimes opinion pieces. I also host a podcast, The MMA Circus, which can also be found on BloodyElbow.com, as well as iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play and Pocket Casts. If anyone wants to talk shop with me, I'm @NickUFC on Twitter. Twitter: @NickUFC
